River Walk, Olden, Norway

Looking up to Lake Floen from falls on Oldeelva river:-

On the way back to Olden village we decided not to take the road again but to walk the path on the other side of the river.

This required walking across wooden catwalks/bridges. You can see other such walkways in photos in previous posts:-

One of them had this small bird (a dipper?) perched on it

There was a path of sorts – more suitable for bikes really – but eventually after having to cross some grass we hit on a semi-metalled road. This was the view back up towards the lake:-

I captured this heron on the bank of the Kinness Burn at St Andrews harbour:-

Canal Bridges, Bruges

When we saw a notice advertising boat trips on the canal in Bruges we opted for one straight away. These photos mostly feature bridges over the canal(s).

Not quite “mind your head”:-

But certainly do this time. I think this was the one the guide said was the lowest:-

Bridge and swans:-

Furthest bridge on the trip. I think the building beyond the bridge is something to do with the water management system in Bruges:-

Side bridge and swans. The bridge wasn’t one we went under. It looks too low for that:-

Raptors at Gardening Scotland 2016

One of the outdoor displays at Gardening Scotland 2016 was of various birds of prey. There’s actually a place near where I live where someone keeps birds of prey. I’ve seen a bloke walking in Markinch with an owl on his arm. I have also seen them being displayed in a shopping mall in Kirkcaldy.

I think this is a long-eared owl:-

Last Year’s Cygnets

In November we visited Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy again.
At least three of the cygnets were almost fully grown:-

Or was it four?:-

Amphibian Visitor

This summer we replaced one of the sinks in our house. The old one was then pressed into service as a makeshift pond for the garden.

Within 24 hours of filling it with water the “pond” had a visitor:-

By this one the frog (or toad) had climbed out to the side:-

My Second Jay

While in Surhuisterveen we spotted a house with a viking ship for a weathervane. The house itself has a distinctive style. I like the railings on the balcony.

While manoeuvering to get a better shot of the weathervane than we had originally we saw a jay on the roof. My second jay! It’s perched on the thatch just above the window.

It moved to the edge of the roof and I got this shot.

Here’s a close-up of the weathervane.

What a great thing to have on your roof.

Geese on the River Wharfe, Wetherby

We made a further stop on the first day on the way down to the Holland ferry. At Wetherby.

There’s a nicely situated car park hard by the River Wharfe.

There were geese on the river.

A Jay

Until this perched on my fence I had never seen a jay before. They’re not very common around here. Before I could photograph it it flew off to my next door neighbour’s fence so it’s a bit blurry.

Red Deer Close(ish) Encounter

Three photos taken from our back bedroom window.

Again the good lady nicked two of them first.

By the time of the third I’d opened the window and the hind was well aware we were watching her.
