From Huntingdon we travelled up to Buxton for an overnight stop. We stayed at the Palace Hotel. My photo of the facade did not come out well.
The room they gave us was well appointed and we had a good stay. Unfortunately we returned later in the year and that room was looking extremely tired and in need of refurbishment, which kind of put us off going back.
Nevertheless, the hotel has an imposing staircase:-

And the dining room ceiling is quite fancy:-

I took another photo of the Opera House and adjacent Pavilion Gardens:-

Buxton’s War Memorial is prominently situated on a small hill opposite the spa and close to the main shopping area.
From the spa side:-

The spa town of Buxton has a lot of fine classical architecture, not the least of which is the spa itself.

Close-up on bit to left. The writing on the building says Natural Mineral Bath:-

This is the view from the War Memorial:-

And from the town, showing aspects of the spa building to the right of the previous photos:-

Buxton also sports a fine Opera House:-

I read that this building, now part of Buxton and Leek College, had the largest dome in the world at the time it was built:-

On the way down south in the summer we stopped off in Buxton, Derbyshire, a former spa town. (Well, I think the spa is still there.)
It’s a nice wee place. Perhaps not so wee.
And I found one deco building; a Co-op in the main street in the lower part of the town. (We only found the upper part of the town by accident by following a sign to a second-hand bookshop. It’s ten or so minutes walk away from the lower town.)

View of detailing on roof line. The windows’ eyes have been poked out. Obviously built in 1934, bang in the deco period:-

Showing detailing on “gable” end:-
