Interior of Monk’s Cell, Mount Grace Priory

The interior of the monk’s cell was far from as spartan as I had previously imagined it would be.
All my Mount Grace Priory photgoraphs are on flickr here.

Jack,
In the third picture it looks as if you’ve caught the right hand shutter in the act of falling. An optical illusion? Or was it askew? Great pictures.

Eric,
It must have been askew. I don’t remember anything falling down while I was there!

In the monk’s bedroom his bed is surrounded by a ‘tester’ this is a forerunner of a four-poster-bed where the hangings are fixed by ropes to the rafters above rather than supported on posts in each corner. Do you have any more photos that show the ropes please? (I visited today but did not have a camera with me) – many thanks

Hi Toni,
I didn’t know that about precursors to four-posters.
I’m afraid I don’t have any more pictures of the cell than the ones in my post.
Thanks for looking in and commenting.
