New Aircraft Carrier

We were along the Fife coast a fortnight or so ago; at Limekilns where there is a good view of Rosyth Dockyard and the Forth Bridges.
Currently fitting out at the dockyard is the new Royal Navy aircraft carrier – the one there won’t be any planes for once it is completed. Both bridges are in the background.

Hi Jack–
The aircraft carrier is being called “the battleship of the twenty-first century,” in other words, a big expensive fish in a barrel. The Navy’s mantra–or is that tantra?– these days is, “In the twenty-first century anything on the seas will either be under the surface, or a target.”

Hi Denis,
It’s a white elephant – and hasn’t even sailed yet. Building it is a form of willy-waving and will only impress civilians.
British politicians are obsessed with “Punching above our weight.” What’s wrong with not punching at all?
