More Seals
Posted in Wild Life at 13:19 on 28 July 2011
We took a walk to Kinghorn a few days ago and came back along the seashore.
Some seals were basking on one of the rocks near to the shore. It’s probably a favourite spot. It looks like the same rock where we spotted seals before; though they’re not always there. We pdo that walk quite frequently and it’s only the second time we’ve seen seals.
Fife’s Art Deco Heritage 5: Kinghorn Cinema

Since I posted about Kinghorn this week it seemed like a good idea to punt this building up the Fife’s Art Deco Heritage list a bit because the former cinema at Kinghorn has Art Deco features.

The towery bits are hexagonal and have deco steps at the top. The fenestration is modern and “eyes poked out” to my mind.
It’s a pity about the lamp-post in this second photo but it does show off the balcony better.

The cinema is of course no longer showing films. It’s a pub/function place known as “The Carousel” now.
Kinghorn

As part of the effort to keep weight down the good lady and I try to go for hour or so long walks as often as possible.
One nice day last week we strolled along to the village of Kinghorn (3-4 miles away.)
This is the harbour there. Not quite as quaint as Crail up along the coast but nice enough.

All the way we were keeping pace with a yacht just off shore. Here it is (with another in the background. You can also just make out the twin stacks of Cockenzie and Port Seton power station on the Forth’s other shore.)

The island in the background makes this a good shot I thought.

Kirkcaldy Wild Life

No, I donât mean those who frequent the pubs and clubs.
It being a nice day* I and the good lady took a stroll along the shore path from Kirkcaldy to Kinghorn. Along the way we spotted some seals basking in the sun. I had the camera!
First attempt. The seals were too far away really. I donât have much of an adjustable lens.

One of the seals was in the water. I think you can just about make it out in this photo. The previous ones are still perched on their rocks to the left of shot.

Just to left of centre in this picture (itâs the shiny bit) is a seal whoâd dragged him or herself out of the water.
This is probably the best shot. A longer ridge of rock with several basking seals.

*I think I might have used the Ablative Absolute (see this post) in this phrase.
