Bannockburn Monument, Ceres, Fife

Ceres is a village in central Fife.
The monument was erected on the six-hundredth anniversary of Scotland’s most famous victory in battle, at Bannockburn in 1314, to commemorate the men of Ceres who fought in it. It’s situated by the side of the “Bow Butts” as Ceres’s village green is called.
Ceres holds a Highland Games every year. It is said to have hosted a games every year since 1314 after Robert the Bruce granted permission in commemoration of the village men’s contribution to his victory.

I am tracing my Scottish Ancestry of the Spittal Family who fought in several different Wars. I have only been able to go back as far as my Grandfather, William Spittal, who fought in the Anglo Boer War and World War 1. My late Father told me that his Great Grandfather fought in an earlier War but was not able to trace any reference to his name. There was no internet availability in those long past days. I would appreciate any assistance you may be able to offer in establishing whether his name appears in War Records at any time. Much appreciated.

I’m sorry, I only photograph War Memorials, I don’t usually access records.
Is it possible your great grandfather may have been in the first Anglo-Boer War 1880-1881 or one of the Afghan Wars (1878-1880) the Zulu War 1879 or alternatively in another of the colonial conflicts? The Crimean War and Indian Mutiny are probably too early.
The Scottish National War Memorial (https://www.snwm.org/) holds records for the Great War and after but you’ve traced through those.
You could maybe try the Scottish Records Office (https://www.snwm.org/roll-search/). Perhaps they have records for previous conflicts.
