An authentic blues song (it might not start, “Well I woke up this morning,” but each verse’s first line is repeated,) Canned Heat adapted On the Road Again from a Floyd Jones song which was itself derived from older blues material. Everything builds on everything. The drone effect (cf bagpipes) is as old as time. Well, as old as written music.
At the time it was released in the UK in 1968 it stood out from its surroundings.

It seems my memory has let me down. I originally categorised Canned Heat’s Let’s Work Together as Friday on my Mind 102 but have now discovered the song did not come out till 1970.
As a result I have now altered that post’s title and content slightly and the subsequent Friday on my Mind entries have been renumbered.
Advancing years, eh? It’s a bugger.

Following on from Canned Heat last week, this live version of Let’s Work Together but more especially Brian Ferry’s reworking of the song as Let’s Stick Together may be deliciously ironic – or not – depending on the outcome of yesterday’s vote. I scheduled this post to appear today before knowing the result.

*I had originally remembered this Canned Heat song as from the 60s but it came out in 1970.

I’m away from home, so this song’s title seemed appropriate.
