BSFA Mailing

The latest BSFA mailing dropped through my letter box yesterday. Itâs been a while. I thought theyâd forgotten about me.
No Focus but the Vector is a J. G. Ballard special.
Plus there was a freebie book, Winter Song, by Colin Harvey, published by the relatively new SF imprint Angry Robot. Presumably they think the PR accruing from this will outweigh any possible loss of sales.
Or maybe itâs just an attempt to get it on the BSFA Award Ballotâ¦.

Oh bugger, we hadn’t thought about hyping it for the BSFA Awards. Good suggestion!
For us it’s two things: 1) for sure, getting Colin’s work in front of the nation’s premier SF readers, knowing his next novel Damage Time is due in late spring of next year; and 2) doing something nice for Xmas.
So, cynically or not, happy xmas!

Cynical – never. Giving books away free is just a way of making sure that another book contract is forthcoming for the author. It’s just reality I’m afraid.
