Best of 2022

I don’t usually post my list of the year before Christmas but I doubt anything I’ve got planned for the rest of the year would make the cut so here’s my best of 2022 in order of reading:-

Every Man for Himself by Beryl Bainbridge
Talking to Ourselves by Andrés Neuman
Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart
Braking Day by Adam Oyebanji
Rose Nicolson by Andrew Greig
Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo
The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson
Crabwalk by Günter Grass
A Summer of Drowning by John Burnside
White Teeth by Zadie Smith
The Thistle and the Grail by Robin Jenkins
A Place of Greater Safety by Hilary Mantel
The Young Team by Graeme Armstrong
At the Loch of the Green Corrie by Andrew Greig
The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid
Luckenbooth by Jenni Fagan
The Red-Haired Woman by Orhan Pamuk
The Middle Parts of Fortune by Frederic Manning
Islanders by Margaret Elphinstone
An Awfully Big Adventure by Beryl Bainbridge

That’s a nice round twenty in total (two which I have still to review here.) There are twelve by men and eight by women, three works of Science Fiction or tinged with Fantasy, nine by Scottish writers, and three translated pieces.
