Just Like Buses

Today is another anniversary. Again just about inescapable if you’ve been near any BBC outlet the past week or so.
You wait 50 years for an anniversary and then two come along at once….
On 23rd November 1963 a strange, spooky TV programme with a first episode entitled An Unearthly Child appeared on BBC 1.
The programme was of course Doctor Who.
On Thu, 21/11/13, BBC 2 showed a good drama about its genesis, An Adventure in Space and Time. It’s on the iPlayer here.
The BBC has got a bit of a cheek calling it the longest running TV programme, though, considering they axed it for years after Sylvester McCoy’s run finished – apart from the Paul McGann one-off.
For any nostalgia freaks here are all the different title sequences.

My first acquaintance with Dr. Who was a TV broadcast of the movie with Peter Cushing in. That must have been around the 1970’s. Then, ultra-sporadically, I looked in at a few of the TV episodes. Now stricken in years, I’ve been daydreaming of collecting every frame and pixel of the entire Dr. Who universe.
At least I managed to view all of “The Fugitive” three times or so. I even took notes, including notes of the little melodies you’d be given as background music.

The Dr Who films weren’t as good as the TV episodes. Peter Cushing wasn’t right as The Doctor. Also apparently it was halfway through the filming before the director realised that the lights on the Daleks heads were only supposed to flash when they were speaking.
I never watched The Fugitive. Early 60s was it?
