SPFL Tier 2, The Rock, 27/2/16.
I wasn’t at the game – the good lady and I went to an antique fair in Edinburgh then roamed the charity bookshops in Stockbridge before entertaining ourselves with a meal out on the road home – I didn’t even look for the score till nearly midnight so sure was I that we’d get nothing from this.
I was astonished at the result. The best I’d hoped for from this was a 0-0.
Yet we had gone three up. Not so easy to hold on to against a full-time team pressing for promotion; as it proved.
Christian Nade opened his account for us, which is good, and I see Jamie Ewings got the call in goal.
With Livi playing Alloa we certainly needed something from the game. I’m delighted.
Our next two games are against the only two teams below us. It could be our season right there.

Well that’s the clean sheet run gone then. And we haven’t got into the habit of scoring….
Unfortunately below us Livi picked up a point and Alloa are showing disturbing signs of coming to life.
The game at St Mirren Park next Saturday has just grown in importance.

Three welcome points, another clean sheet, this moves us two wins ahead of ninth (and with a game in hand) plus it kept us above St Mirren. A good day’s work.
Has Livi’s manager resigned yet?

So, Livingston have sacked manager Mark Burchill.
That’s three opponents in a row whose managers Sons have seen off.
First Alloa, then St Mirren and now Livingston.
Can we dare hope to polish off the next two as well? Falkirk’s Peter Houston and Rangers’s Mark Warburton?
No; me neither.
Well, maybe Warburton.

SPFL Tier 2, Almondvale Stadium,* 19/12/15.
It was important not to lose this to keep the differential between us and them at two wins especially since St Mirren were all but guaranteed a win at Alloa so I was disappointed to hear we’d gone one down early on.
Contrariwise (now there’s a good word) I was delighted when I heard the final score. Is it my imagination or are we scoring quite a few late goals this season?
Looks like it may be a difficult day at Falkirk on the 26th though….

SPFL Tier 2, Recreation Park,* 5/12/15.
Yay! Three points.
Most welcome. More, please.
I wasn’t at the game. The weather was foul – both wind and rain – and the away section at Alloa isn’t well protected from the elements. I also had the feeling that the closure of the Forth Road Bridge would mean heavy traffic on the approach to Alloa. (It’s also put me off going to Livingston on the 19th and Falkirk on Boxing Day.)
I felt irrationally cheered by the result. I confess I don’t much care about the Cup game on Tuesday night. The next two league games are more important.
*Call it the Indodrill Stadium if you wish.

Oh dear. Things are now getting desperate. Especially with Livingston getting another win today.
Unless there’s a turn-round soon (and there’s little sign of that) I can’t see us avoiding the play-offs – or even the relegation spot.
So. Situation normal. Gloom abounds.

Oh dear. It looks like the wheels have come off the wagon big style. That’s nine goals lost in two games where in the previous nine we’d only yielded up twelve – and that with no more than two in any one game.
I don’t know what it might be but something needs to be done soon to turn things round, especially if, as might be the case, Livingston are starting to get their act together.
Our next two are against Morton at home, where our record against them isn’t great, and Queen of the South away, ditto.

SPFL Tier 2, The Rock, 3/10/15.
Three points! And I’m no longer a jinx! I managed to pick up a home strip before the game as well.
We started with a flurry and Fraser Wright (fielded at left back) had a header from a corner just over but then Livi began to dominate and we more or less failed to threaten for the rest of the half. But we won the ball back quickly in midfield after a corner had been cleared and got into the space Livi had left, leading to a lovely Wullie Gibson cross for Kevin Cawley who didn’t miss the header.
Our defence hadn’t learned the lesson of last week though. Only three minutes of a lead and too many of our defenders plus keeper were drawn to the incoming corner. The Livi player’s header back across was to an unmarked man. Mind you he actually had to head it; it didn’t just bounce off him like last week.
I missed the incident which led to Livi’s Miles Hippolyte being sent off as the ball was well away, but it seems he was a silly boy. Curiously after that we were the team who looked more ragged for a while.
The winner came from another broken down set-piece, a throw-in this time. (New signing Steven Saunders has replaced Scott Linton in long throw terms. That improved our performance at throw-ins no end. We’ve got no height up front though. Saunders was decent enough in the right back role.) The ball came back out and sub Jordan Kirkpatrick hooked it back in. Eamonn Brophy took the ball down, swivelled and scored. It’s the first sniff of a proper chance he’s had in the one and a half games I’ve seen him – and he took it. He looked delighted too.
We’re still too ponderous in the build-up, but I’ll take the three points.
Next up: Hibs at Easter Road on the 17th. They’ll be looking for revenge for our 2-1 win in August.
Edited to add: Young Donald McCallum troubled them a bit with his pace when he came on and was instrumental in their goalie being booked for fouling him away out on the touchline but he looked awful lightweight against Livi’s tall muscular defnders.

The club has announced a new sponsorship deal for the stadium to follow in the foosteps of the likes of Strathclyde Homes Stadium and Bet Butler Stadium – not to mention Dumbarton Community Football Stadium.
It’s now to be officially called the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium – which at first I gulped at thinking it was almost as much of a mouthful as any of the names Livingston’s stadium has had over the years.
However, the sponsor is a local firm run by someone who has been a Sons fan for a long time. Win-win all round.
I’ll still call it the Rock, though. (In my absent-minded moments – stop laughing back there – I sometimes still say Boghead.)
