SPFL Tier 4, The Rock, 18/3/23.
Well. What do you say about a shambles like this?
That’s the second time this season we’ve been given a horsing.
I know they’re actually a good team – I was impressed by them in the 1-1 draw at the Rock earlier this season – but they were equal bottom of the league at the game’s start.
I checked the score at half-time and swore. To cap it all Stirling were winning then.
At that point I was thinking that any chance of promotion was gone. As things stood Stirling would be two points above us with a game in hand (to be played on Tuesday coming) and due to host us next week, most likely on a high with a bigger points lead to defend. And if we were to finish second I wouldn’t fancy our chances of negotiating the first play-off tie.
Our goal when it came was far too late, wasn’t even scored by us and was immediately followed by their fifth.
This is not the form of league winners. We’ve lost three of our last five. That doesn’t seem like a hiccup. More like a trend.
If Stranraer had scored their late penalty against Stirling there would have been a better gloss but now we’re only one point ahead and they still have that game in hand.
I had been thinking of going to Stirling next Saturday but the prospect is now looking far too ominous.
