Scottish Cup, Third Round, The Rock, 29/11/25.
Is this definitively the worst result in our history?
I know Talbot are only two divisions below us and Bonnyrigg were (nominally) four when they beat us in the same round nine years ago.
I said at the time that was the worst result we’ve ever had. But that was only 1-0.
This, by contrast, is an utter humiliation.
Surely manage Stevie Farrell has to go? (In his post-match interview he said he doesn’t run away from problems. However, if he had any care for the club’s future welfare he would resign. Now.)
If he stays we’ll certainly be renewing acquaintance with Talbot again next season as we’ll both be in the Lowland League West. (They are a stick on for that, being licensed, plus unbeaten in the West of Scotland League Premier from which ten clubs are likely to be promoted to the LLW in the reconstruction of Tier 5, while we’ll finish last in Tier 4 and lose the Pyramid Play-off.)
The fans have had more than enough of him but unfortunately I don’t have confidence that the powers that be at the club have the will to sack him.

So it all starts over again.
Another round of Saturdays spent in anticipation/dread to be folowed by delight or despair depending on the result.
Sons kick off against Bonnyrigg Rose at New Dundas Park this afternoon. We drew with them only a couple of weeks ago in the League Cup and might have been playing them again in ten days if they hadn’t lost to Kilmarnock B in the Challenge Cup. As it is we’ve got a trip to Ayrshire (or wherever Kilmarnock B play their home games) now.
But this is the real stuff.
I can’t imagine we’ll start off winning seven games in a row again, though.

Sons have been given a bye in Round One of the SPFL Trust Trophy (once known as The Challenge Cup.)
It will be either Kilmarnock B or Bonnyrigg Rose away in the second round.
Since we play Bonnyrigg in the League Cup as well, and first up in the League, then, should it come to pass, we’ll soon be sick of the sight of them.

One of the things that happened while I was away was the draw for the group stage of the League Cup (apparently now called the Viaplay Cup.)
We play Airdrieonians, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Bonnyrigg Rose and Dundee, the first and last away, the other two at home.
I suppose we’ll be out of contention after two games as usual.

SPFL Tier 4, New Dundas Park, 15/4/23.
A win?
And a clean sheet?
We’ve not seen either of those for six weeks.
I’m glad we’ve stopped the rot. I was beginning to wonder where a point was going to come from.
And results elsewhere mean we’ve clinched a promotion play-off spot. (I’d have taken that before a ball was kicked but after being top of the pile for so long it’s a touch disappointing we didn’t manage to push that over the line. And the other teams in the play-offs will be in a better psychological place for not having that disappointment.)
We have Declan Byrne and Russell McLean to thank for today’s goals. I must confess that second scorer is a surprise as when I saw him – at East Fife and Stirling – he looked like he couldn’t hit the proverbial barn door. Still, we’ll take small comforts.
Next up is Stirling Albion at home on Tuesday where they’ll be hoping to clinch the league title (that’s if the game goes on; it’s been postponed four times already.) Then it’s East Fife at home on Saturday and they’ll be on a high after putting eight past Stranraer today.

SPFL Tier 4, The Rock, 28/1/23.
Well, a win’s a win. Mustn’t complain.
Three points and a clean sheet. Gregg Wylde scored early on.

SPFL Tier 4, New Dundas Park, 3/12/22.
Looks like we got away a bit with this one.
Considering we didn’t score.
We went one down right at the end of the first half but equalised through an own goal early in the second.
Mind you, we were without our first choice centre halves and had to shoehorn other players in.
Still, our margin at the top increased by the point we gained since our nearest challengers Stirling Albion lost.
No game next week, so a Saturday free from worry.

SPFL Tier 4, The Rock, 17/9/22.
Well that’s our first goal – and so first win – against Bonnyrigg.
I don’t know if we ground it out but that’s two 1-0 wins in a row.
Interesting to note it was Carsy who took the penalty. Ally Love took the last two – against Elgin three weeks ago.
And we broke our record of successive wins at the start of a season again – plus equalled the Division’s best ever start.
On Tuesday night we’re at Stranraer for the game postponed from last week. As I said before, they’re our bogey team.

Scottish Challenge Cup,* The Rock, 13/8/19.
So. Humiliation as predicted.
This surely beats even losing to Bonnyrigg Rose for a terrible result.
This Sons team could be about the worst we’ve ever had and the players’ heads must be seriously down. Goodness knows how we can turn the season round. It’ll be some miracle if we do. I am seriously depressed.
I’ve been planning on going to Peterhead on Saturday ever since the fixtures came out. I doubt I will enjoy the experience.
*One consolation. I’ll not need to call this the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup again, this season at least.

Scottish Cup Third Round Replay, The Rock, 6/12/16.
This season I wasn’t going to blog about games I hadn’t been to but this result cannot pass without comment. It’s appalling.
It may not have been a surprise after the first game in Bonnyrigg but it is still quite simply the worst result in the club’s history. Period.
Stevie Aitken as manager has to take a serious look at himself.
