Third away game in a row with a 2-0 win! It’s a good time for away form to improve.
First thing: why did Forfar play in black and red halved shirts? It made them look like Cagliari. Without the skill, obviously.
Not much happened in the first half, our midfield struggled to get into the game. We managed two attempts cleared off the line from Ben Gordon and Derek Carcary (who didn’t hit his hard enough) but Forfar had a couple on target too, plus a lot of corners.
The game was meandering in the second until we scored out of nowhere. The ball came out to Ross Clark on the edge of the box and he volleyed it precisely over the keeper. Nice finish. We weathered the Forfar push and started to look threatening on the break and Clark again scored by picking up the scraps when the ball reached him as he was following in. He nearly got a hat-trick after a fine move (confidence was brimming by this time) when McLoughlin should maybe have hit it himself but passed to the better positioned Clarkie but the ball bobbled just as he hit it.
I refuse to get my hopes up. The last time we won three on the bounce without conceding a goal we got one point out of the next nine.

A clean sheet. A CLEAN SHEET! Wonders will never cease.
Just as well since otherwise the Shire would have caught us up on goal difference.
Good to see all the strikers we fielded today getting a goal, especially Chissie.
Given the other results this was a good win to get.
On to Monday’s cup tie now. I wonder how Ross County’s defeat this afternoon will affect them.

I’d have taken this before the start but given we were two-nil up in a game where Forfar were barely in it in the first half and a win would have put us second it’s disappointing. As it is we’re now down to fourth. But at least the unbeaten away record is still intact.
I was impressed by Paul McLeod – who seems to want it more than Dumbarton strikers usually do – and Paul Keegan played better than he did against Airdrie Utd or Annan. Stevie Murray and Derek Carcary were good as usual but the final cross wasn’t always the best. But why on Earth is Andy Geggan playing in midfield? He was anonymous. Plus Gordon Lennon isn’t a right back and the least said about Gary Wilson the better.
The substitution with four minutes to go was a bit strange. Waste time, yes, but replace like with like and keep the shape, don’t put on a midfielder for a striker.
Man of the match?
Forfar’s keeper, who made four or five very good saves. Francois Dubourdeau, where are you now?)
