good review
I'm mostly with you in your analysis
even as Peter Gabriel lent the soundtrack some class, Joan Baez did likewise for "Silent Running" which surely was the philosophic inspiration for "Wall.E"
I'll look into your book, a sci-fi writer myself (http://www.killware.com)
good thoughts, brother philosopher,

After re-watching some Six Feet Under today I came across an episode which heavily references Silent Running. Arthur, who moves in as the Fisher's apprentice, watches it with Ruth and a few clips of the film are shown, along with some of the ending credits.

When I saw it, the projectors were so misplaced that the ads played on the ceiling. My daughter thought this was normal and wondered why it didn't happen at the next film we saw. Fortunately she's also too young to shudder in horror when Michael Crawford appears on screen. They could have warned us.

I think the BBC have paid a reasonable sum of money to advertise in the cinema. I seem to remember adverts for the Mighty Boosh and also Radio 1 at other recent cinema trips.

I loved Wall-E because I thought it was very affecting. I really cared about the characters and the love story. It did lose some of its edge when they left Earth though. I was astonished by the constant referencing of 2001: A Space Odyssey myself, but it sounds like I may have to check out Silent Running.

Why, apart from there being likely to be children present, is C-Beebies being advertised in a cinema?

C-Beebies isn't for children -- it's for parents!
